‘Shoe Bicycle’ Gives New Meaning to ‘Rubber Meets Road’

The wheel was invented over 5,000 years ago, and since then humanity has come a long way in technological advancement. In the year 2019 we have electric cars that can kind of drive themselves, these rockets that can kind of re-land, and now, advanced species of the 21st century, we have the shoe bicycle. We’ll call it… the shoe-cycle.

Yes, whatever day you’re reading this on is indeed a blessed day because the shoe bicycle, built by YouTuber The Q—you’ve seen one of his videos, trust—delivers exactly what its name promises: a bicycle with wheels made of running shoes that looks like something Professor Farnsworth would build.

In the video, which comes via Laughing Squid, we watch The Q as he marks out, renders, bends, welds, and finally builds the wheels made of shoes, and needless to say, the whole process is mesmerizing. Although there’s no voice-over explanation for the build, it doesn’t matter—the only thing viewers really want to know is how this bad boy handles.

Not well, is the answer to that question. Although there’s only a few seconds of the bike in action in the video, it’s immediately apparent that this kind of ride quality is on par with an orbital vehicle returning to Earth in Gravity. On the upside, however, we could see this contraption as a good way to work out your core, or even perhaps help your digestion. Speaking of which, you’ll probably want to wait several days after eating before riding the shoe-cycle.

What do you think of this bicycle equipped with shoe wheels? Do you kind of wish you had one just to blow people’s minds when you rode around the streets? And how much does it remind you of those shoe wheels Professor Farnsworth built in Futurama? Let us know in the comments!
