SCRUBS Reboot Sets Release Date and Reveals New Image

JD, Turk, and Elliot are officially back on call. The Scrubs reboot is a go. And, since he couldn’t do it all on his own, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, and Sarah Chalke have signed on to once again star alongside Zach Braff. Additionally, John C. McGinley will return in the Scrubs reboot as Dr. Perry Cox. Reyes will reprise her role as Carla Espinosa, the head nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, in a recurring guest star role.

The best part is that the Scrubs reboot now has a release date, which is February 25. It will drop at 8PM local time with back-to-back episodes on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu. And, there’s a new image from Scrubs of JD and Turk being total goofballs.

ABC ordered the new era of Scrubs to series for the 2025-2026 TV season. (News we first heard at Deadline.) Braff, Donald Faison, and Chalke will reprise their original roles as Doctors John Dorian, Christopher Turk, and Elliot Reid. All three will also serve as executive producers of the Scrubs reboot series. Original series creator Bill Lawrence will also join as an executive producer.

Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra were supposed to take over showrunner duties this time; however, Hobert is exiting the Scrubs reboot. That means Batra will be its sole showrunner, and she knows the wacky, imaginative world of Scrubs well. She worked on the original show, which ran for seven seasons at NBC starting in 2001. It then finished up in 2010 after two seasons at ABC.

As for what fans can expect from the Scrubs reboot, it sounds like more of the same but with fresh perspectives in a very different world. The show will see JD and Turk working together at Sacred Heart for the first time in years. But while medicine and interns have changed, one thing will always remain the same: they’re still in a full-fledged bromance. The show will also stay true to its DNA in another important way. It will feature new interns. But Braff, Faison, and Chalke aren’t the only familiar faces we should expect to see. The new/old Scrubs will also include some more characters from the original series.

Most recently, Amy Smart, who played Scrubs‘ Tasty Coma Wife, shared she would be open to making a return in Scrubs reboot. She noted, “I would definitely revisit the Tasty Coma Wife. I mean it was just honestly, such a fun, quirky show to do.” Indeed, fans often wondered what became of Smart’s Tasty Coma Wife, who left the show without any explanation after a few episodes. Smart did return briefly in season eight, but the reboot could be a perfect time to fill in that storyline.

In a statement, Lawrence said, “Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”

Of course, this Scrubs reboot wouldn’t work if he didn’t get the band back together. Scrubs always made clear that no one can do it all on their own.
