SAMARITAN Clip Sees Sylvester Stallone Grumpily Reveal Superhero Powers

For a whole generation that grew up on Rocky and Rambo movies, Sylvester Stallone was their big-screen superhero. Even if he didn’t have any gadgets or powers. But aside from 1995’s Judge Dredd, and a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Stallone mostly missed the superhero movie boom. But better later than never to get your own superhero movie, we say.

Coming soon to Prime Video is Samaritan, in which Stallone plays a superhero who was once the city’s protector—one who many believed dead for years. Overlord director Julius Avery helmed this film, with Stallone himself producing. You can watch an exclusive clip from Samaritan below, in which he shows a child just how much of a badass he still is. We already love this grizzled hero, and we can’t wait to see more of his journey, especially how he interacts with the kids he seems to attract. You can also read the official synopsis down below.

Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.
Sylverster Stallone kicks some butt as the Samaritan.
Prime Video

Writer Bragi F. Schut originally wrote Samaritan as a screenplay, then adapted it into a series of graphic novels from Mythos Comics. But now, Samaritan is finally a movie as they originally intended. Much like Frank Miller’s classic Batman story, The Dark Knight Returns, it features a city on the brink. One which brings a senior superhero, Stallone, out of retirement.

We’ll see if this new take on an elder hero begins a brand new franchise for the beloved action movie icon. But one thing is for sure, this Samaritan clip has us excited to watch the movie as soon as possible. Samaritan debuts on Prime Video on August 26.
