Real-Life Spider-Man Who Saved a Dangling Kid Rewarded with French Citizenship

One of the greatest things about Spider-Man is his ability to scale tall buildings and save people dangling precariously above the Earth at dizzying heights. So when the video released of Mamoudou Gassama climbing a four-story building in France to rescue a small boy hanging from a balcony, it didn’t take long for people to dub Gassama a real-life Spidey.

The speed and ease with which Gassama scales the side of the building to rescue the little boy is nothing short of incredible, and seems practically superhuman. If you haven’t had a chance to watch the video of the rescue, take a peek, because it’s not only an impressive physical feat but a pretty heartwarming example of humans looking out for one another.

Obviously, such heroism deserves recognition, right? Well, it turns out that Gassama was an undocumented immigrant living in France, and French president Emmanuel Macron decided that Gassama had done more than enough to officially earn French citizenship.

As USA Today reports, President Macron met with Gassama and rewarded his act of heroism and bravery, saying, “Because this is an exceptional act … we are obviously, today, going to regularize all your papers.” As such, Macron began naturalization procedures so Gassama can legally be deemed a French citizen.

Even better, Macron offered Gassama a job as a firefighter, saying that the job clearly lined up with Gassama’s skills and desire to help people. So it seems like this real-life Spider-Man is getting quite the happy ending, and could be keeping the streets of France safe for a long time. With so much awful stuff happening in the news these days, hearing stories like this reminds us that there is still a lot of good in the world, and a lot of people ready and willing to do the extraordinary to help one another, just like Mamoudou Gassama.
