RDJ Gently Mocks Gwyneth Paltrow for Her Lack of MCU Knowledge

For various reasons, people seem to have conflicting feelings about actress/businesswoman Gwyneth Paltrow. But after three decades on screen, we can’t argue that the Oscar-winner is a Hollywood legend. So much so that the lifestyle guru just received the 20th Annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award. And we learned, via The Hollywood Reporter, that the person presenting the award to her was none other than her on-screen MCU husband, Robert Downey Jr., who is a longtime friend. In his speech, he gently mocked her for always forgetting which Marvel movies she starred in. And even which MCU actors she’s met.

Robert Downey Jr. described his friend as “Impossibly intelligent, yet forever confused by the basic tenets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its inhabitants.” One time, she asked RDJ “Who’s that?” about one of the actors on set. Robert Downey Jr. responded with “That’s Spider-Man. ‘He said his name was Peter.’ His character’s name is Peter. He’s Tom Holland. You’ve done four movies with him.” Gwyneth Paltrow has gone viral for interview clips where she doesn’t seem to even know what MCU movies she’s been in. Famously, she had no idea she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Granted, it was a cameo, but c’mon.

The former Tony Stark/future Victor von Doom also gently ribbed his buddy about her status as a “wellness expert.” But he also finished off his mini-roast by taking shots at those in media who refer to Paltrow as “polarizing.” He said, “Polarizing, a word used by dingbats to falsely describe powerful women who demonstrate decades of irrefutable relevance and reinvention.” He didn’t mention anything about Gwyneth Paltrow being in Avengers: Doomsday. But he probably realizes that even if she shows up in it as Pepper Potts, she probably already doesn’t even remember filming anything for it.
