PROJECT HAIL MARY: JOURNEY AMONG THE STARS Puts You in Grace’s Shoes

Project Hail Mary took the cinematic world by storm last March, elevating the already popular stand-alone book and delivering it to an enormous global audience. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Project Hail Mary is going full multi-media. Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars will follow intrepid involuntary savior of mankind Ryland Grace as he and his best friend Rocky the Eridian navigate back to Rocky’s home planet of Erid with their precious cargo.

With the tag-line “Your only hope is each other”, the game looks like it will have plenty of focus on the thing that makes Project Hail Mary—the book and the movie—so special: the bond between Grace and Rocky. James Ortiz will reprise the role of Rocky, the voice and puppeteer behind our favorite Eridian. As for Grace in Journey Among the Stars, well, that’s you, dear-potential-future-player. You’ll meet many problems on your way to Erid. You, with help (and I’m sure plenty of criticism) from Rocky, have to find solutions. And if there is no solution? Welp, you better figure out how to make one for yourselves.

“Since creating Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more. This is the first step outside of what happens in the book and movie that you can experience in mixed reality.” —Andy Weir

Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is meant to be a full, immersive experience covering the untold chapter of Grace and Rocky’s trek. With author Andy Weir writing the game’s story and participating personally in development with Maze Theory, we can fairly safely say the plot of the game will be canon. And while plenty of us won’t be running out to grab an ultra-pricy VR system anytime soon, we can at least all watch the Let’s Plays and experience this new part of the story that way. Frankly, the game could have Grace and Rocky watching paint dry together, and it would still interest me. And yes, I do believe the game’s number one selling point is that you can fist bump Rocky. Or fist his bump, if you prefer.
