This Exhibit Is Full of Fun POKÉMON Fossils

The Pokémon craze is at an all time high as we celebrate 30 years of the beloved game’s debut. The Pokémon Company has promised exciting fan experiences to commemorate the momentous occasion, like a new snapshot feature on the Pokémon GO app and “Day In” and “Night Out” events. A fossil-fueled activity is joining the mix for all you paleontology-obsessed Pokémon fans out there. The Pokémon Fossil Museum exhibition makes its North America debut at the Fossil Museum in Chicago in March.

POKÉMON Gave Every Single Pokémon Their Own Logo to Celebrate 30 Years

The interactive exhibition lets you compare fossilized Pokémon with real-life fossils like Sue the T-Rex. Trainers can step into the boots of a paleontologist in this unique, super cool journey through time. The exhibition heads to America from Japan, where it first made it debut. Trainers of all ages are encouraged to visit and explore.

Pokémon of all shapes and sizes roam the vast ecosystems of Pokémon Planet. From Pokémon like Tyrantrum to Archeops, each life-size model stands side by side with extinct lifeforms from the museum’s collection for visitors to compare. What would a Jigglypuff fossil look like? Do they have bones? Or just puff? These are the burning questions we ask ourselves.

The Pokémon Fossil Museum exhibition opens at the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois on May 22, 2026 and runs through April 11, 2027. Fans can also catch Excavator Pikachu, Pokémon Professors, and Field Museum scientists.
