Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Head to Nintendo Switch

Pokémon is turning 30 this year. And so it’s not surprising that remakes of Pokémon games are getting updates of their own. Of course, Pokémon fans know that this year’s Pokémon Day commemorates the three decades that have passed since the release of the original Pokémon video games in 1996: Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green. In 2004, these two OG games were remade for the Game Boy Advance system and named Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version. And that brings us to today, The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are coming to the Nintendo Switch system on February 27. This is big news in the Pokémon world because it marks the first time the classic games will be available on the Switch eShop. Check out a trailer for the Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version below.

A release shares of this major announcement, “The Pokémon Company group today announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, the 2004 remakes of the Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games originally released in 1996, are coming to the Nintendo Switch system on Feb. 27, 2026. Originally launched on the Game Boy Advance system in 2004, Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will be coming to the Nintendo Switch system as download-exclusive titles to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon. These titles will be available to play after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents presentation and can be played on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems.”

The arrival of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version on Nintendo Switch has us wondering what other classic Pokémon games we may see soon on the console. And that thought fills us with much excitement.
