“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” We’ve all heard that a million times, and it certainly is true. It’s vital to begin every day right. But that has nothing to do with what you eat. At least not when you live with two adorable little otters. Because as this delightful video shows, when you can sit down to a seafood feast with cute animals you get a breakfast that nourishes your heart.
This video (which we first saw at Laughing Squid) comes from the Japanese couple responsible for the YouTube channel Kotsumet. There they document what it’s like living with their two otters, Kotaro and Hana. Kotaro, who is two-and-a-half, has a scar on his tail “from being bitten by another otter when he was still a baby.” Hana is a year younger, and like her older otter friend, she’s been toilet trained. They both use a pad originally designed for small dogs.
But based on the opening shot here, they sleep more like little children, tucked into their beds and awoken by mom telling them it’s time to come eat. And hoo boy do they eat well. On this morning they were treated to a delightful array of raw tuna and salmon. Along with cooked scallops and chicken.
Kotsumet
This would constitute the best, healthiest breakfast of my life in at least a decade. And I’m not just talking about the food. Imagine the kind of spirits you’d be in all day long if you kicked off your morning with house-trained otters. This is like living in a Disney animated film come to life. Forget nourishing my body with protein and fiber. This breakfast nourishes my soul.
But if I got to dine with these otters for dinner instead, that would change things. Dramatically. Supper would be the most important meal of the day.
