Over the course of his career, Orlando Bloom has played a pirate and an elf. He’s currently playing soldier-turned-inspector Rycroft Philsotrate in the neo-noir fantasy series Carnival Row. But thanks to the pandemic, his new full-time role is his favorite one: dad. On a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Bloom revealed his quarantine activities. And it involves building intricate LEGO creations with his nine-year-old son Flynn.
“I actually found it kind of reassuring,” Bloom admitted to Fallon. He then talked about how he fell prey to the addiction of LEGO building. He was the one wanting to stay up a little later to finish a project. The result of their shared work was more than just a bonding experience. The actor has a room filled with their LEGO creations, which range from 1960s Porsches to epic trucks.
According to the actor’s fiancée, Katy Perry, Bloom’s obsession with LEGO toys has been keeping the actor busy for months. In a recent interview on SiriusXM, she revealed that they had a LEGO room in their house—what was formerly a TV room. “He gets these LEGOs that are super hard to do like the model cars and stuff and he’ll make those in two days and then he displays them on the walls,” she told Sirius back in May. “We have a LEGO wall. It’s like a championship LEGO wall.”

Bloom told Fallon that the time off due to quarantine has been “a real solace” since he was working heavily before the pandemic hit. In addition to building countless LEGO toys, he’s been spending his time preparing for a new arrival: a baby girl. We can bet that it’s only going to be a few years before he’s sharing the same kind of bonding time with his new daughter, showing her how to build LEGO creations of her own.
