OBI-WAN KENOBI Series Series Sets Release Date with New Poster

Please note that since the time of this writing, Obi-Wan Kenobi has delayed its release date to May 27

It has been a big week for Darth Vader. First, Vader featured heavily in the Olympics. And now, we know when he’ll be back on our screens. In an exciting development, the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series has finally set a release date, one Star Wars fans will recognize. Obi-Wan Kenobi, starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master, will release on May 25. It will stream, of course, on Disney+.

Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s release date is, of course, the same as that of the original Star Wars movie. An excellent Easter egg for fans. Star Wars will celebrate its 45th anniversary.

A release from Disney shares more about what this Star Wars series will entail:

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Ten years seems like a long time. But some wounds run deep. We definitely know what relationship will define this new story. And, of course, the series will see Hayden Christensen return in the role of Darth Vader. So we know Vader will have a prominent role. Additionally, “joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.” An excellent sounding cast. We can’t wait to learn more about the characters they will play.

The relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan is a fan-favorite. Many Star Wars devotees have waited a long time to see it fleshed out on our screens. Disney+ also revealed the first poster for the series. The poster, of course, shares Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s release date. But it doesn’t say much more than that about what’s to come, though it does evoke a certain feeling of loneliness. A previously released sizzle real for the show mentioned this would be a dark time for Obi-Wan. And this poster matches that idea.

In the reel, Deborah Chow, the director of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, shared that even being a Jedi wasn’t safe at the time of this Star Wars series. But Obi-Wan is dedicated to his task of keeping Luke safe. At the time, we glimpsed a fight between Obi-Wan and Vader in concept art. But we don’t know too much more about that yet.

Though details are still sparse, we feel happy to have gotten Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s release date. The Force leaps within us as we start to get excited about this show. And, of course, our nerdy hearts are happy that it will release a day important to Star Wars. What a meaningful way to celebrate the occasion.
