J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek Make a Promise in This NIGHT SKY Clip

Night Sky will take viewers to another planet, but that doesn’t mean it’s not grounded in heart. The upcoming series from Prime Video and Legendary Television stars Academy Award-winners J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek. They play Franklin and Irene York, a couple who happen to have a secret portal to another planet on their property. The series’ trailer showed this portal. And in this exclusive clip from Night Sky, they have a serious, but sweet conversation.

“What’s a good age, you think?” Franklin asks Irene. And he clarifies that he’s talking about how long a life should be. It’s something we all think about. What age feels like a good, long amount of time? What is a sufficient amount of time to enjoy this one life we get? Franklin thinks 100 years would do nicely, and he asks Irene to promise to live that long. And despite knowing the average human life expectancy is not near that, I somehow do not find the conversation depressing. It’s just… real. Night Sky is deep.

The conversation feels symbolic of the Yorks’ quiet life. At least the one they had. Night Sky‘s synopsis details how things will change.

Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene (Sissy Spacek) and Franklin York (J.K. Simmons), a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended…and the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.

Night Sky premieres on Prime Video on May 20, 2022.
