Nickelodeon Airing Town Hall to Educate Kids on the Coronavirus

Life is pretty scary right now. And we say that as fully grown adults. So, what on earth is it like for kids living through the coronavirus pandemic? Nickelodeon and Kristen Bell are hoping to answer that question with a televised special, #KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall. It will present a “kids-eye view” on the current state of affairs as well as answering questions from kids around the country.

According to the official press release, “The special will directly address kids’ questions and concerns, include tips and insights from medical experts on ways to be healthy, and give first-person accounts from kids and families around the country who are social distancing and making changes to their everyday lives and relationships.”

Taking the social distancing advisory seriously, the participants will connect remotely. Host Kristen Bell and all of the guests will be “connecting via video from locations across the U.S.” Bell’s guests will include Dr. Nadine Burke Harris (California Surgeon General) and Dr. Vivek H. Murthy (former U.S. Surgeon General). Plus, a mix of fan faves and Nickelodeon stars including Charli D’Amelio, Josh Gad, Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson, and Russell and Ciara Wilson, among others will appear.

#KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall will simulcast across Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons. It will also be available on Nick On Demand, Nickelodeon YouTube, the Nick App and the Nick Pluto TV channel following the premiere. The special will also appear on Nickelodeon’s international networks.

#KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall is part of the network’s overall #KidsTogether initiative, which launched earlier this month and aims to use familiar characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, Blues CluesHenry Danger, and The Casagrandes to “engage with kids and families on tips for staying healthy and also ideas for activities to do together while in the home.”

We’re really happy to see kids programmers like Nickelodeon using their platform for good during these exceedingly tough times. It’ll be really interesting to see how #KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall goes. Children are often left out of the conversations about vital international issues like the coronavirus crisis. Parents who want to prep their kids (and themselves) for the special can visit NickHelps.com to access a brief discussion guide.

The Nickelodeon #KidsTogether special will air on Monday, March 30, at 7PM ET/PT before heading to all Nick platforms.
