ONE PIECE Will Get a New Anime Remake at Netflix, THE ONE PIECE to Come From WIT Studio

The seas are buzzing. It’s a great time to be King of the Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy, one of his loyal crew members, or one of his well-deserved fans. Not only will One Piece soon celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary, but it is celebrating in style. As its original manga story and anime begin their final acts, new chapters of One Piece are emerging all around us. First, of course, there is Netflix’s live-action series adaptation, which absolutely exceeded all expectations, breaking the so-called anime adaptation curse and landing on Nerdist‘s “Best Television of 2023” list. But now, there’s even more unexpected and yet incredible news. One Piece will receive a new anime adaptation of the long-running manga written by Eiichiro Oda.

This new anime remake of One Piece will be distinct from the anime already in existence; it will feature new animation, modern techniques, and a reimagining of Monkey D. Luffy’s story. Here’s what we know about it so far.

One Piece Will Receive a Brand New Anime at Netflix, The One Piece

A new One Piece anime is a genius move from Netflix. As fans flock to the new live-action adaptation, new fans might struggle with the vastness of the One Piece anime and manga already in existence. (Although, interested viewers can check out our guide to watching One Piece to make the process easier.) There are over 1,000 episodes of the original anime, after all. But a One Piece anime remake, one that will feel fresh and that will happen in real-time, will allow fans to enter the story in this exciting way. Here’s what we know about the remake so far.

A release shares:

The manga “ONE PIECE” is getting a new anime adaptation starting from the iconic East Blue saga… Titled THE ONE PIECE, the anime series will be produced by the renowned WIT Studio, recognized for their work on hit anime such as SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan (Season 1-3).

Currently in production, THE ONE PIECE will be streamed worldwide exclusively on Netflix, marking a significant collaboration with THE ONE PIECE production committee, made up of representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co.

In a joint statement, the committee expressed their enthusiasm for this groundbreaking project, which will be distinct from the TV anime series that has captivated audiences for over 25 years. With THE ONE PIECE, the committee aims to provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.

A groundbreaking project indeed. Although, I have personally joked many times that a new One Piece anime remake would be just the right thing to do on the heels of the live-action series, I could not have expected it to really happen. It seems incredible that as one anime adaptation is happening, a second joins it. But that’s the power of One Piece.

The One Piece Anime Remake Will Come From WIT Studio

Anime fans were incredibly excited to hear that the One Piece anime remake would come from WIT Studio. As mentioned in the release, the studio is responsible for SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan (Season 1-3), among other things. The studio’s style is distinct, but certainly good looking. We can already kind of imagine what the Straw Hat pirates will look like in this style.

Right now, we have only one sneak peek at the art of the new One Piece anime. But we can’t wait to see more. Already, it feels very distinct from the original designs that we associate with the series. We’ll have to stay tuned to see what the characters will look and sound like. But, personally, we’ll cross our fingers that Netflix’s live-action series will be in conversation with this new show.
