Update: It looks like this announcement is actually about revealing the new MCU Avengers and Avengers: Doomsday cast, and we’ve shifted our coverage hereOpens in a new tab.
Marvel Studios teased us with something Chris Hemsworth first thing this morning, but it became so much more than that. The studio took to Instagram to showcase a director’s chair with the words “Chris Hemsworth” on the back. Otherwise, we only saw a dark room and heard some strange atmospheric music. It was a lot of sudden excitement for a Wednesday morning, but if it meant Chris Hemsworth would return to the MCU, we were interested to hear more. It turns out, though, more than just Hemsworth was involved in the action.

There were no initial clues as to what exactly this MCU and Chris Hemsworth collaboration would be. But as we continued to check out the Instagram Live, found hereOpens in a new tab, the plot thickened and thickened. We initially thought this could this be an announcement that Hemsworth would return to the MCU for Thor 5. Or maybe that he would join the vast list of MCU heroes and actors announced for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars and Doomsday. But it seems like it’s much beyond that. Before we knew it, a chair for Vanessa Kirby came onto the scene. Kirby, of course, plays Invisible Woman/Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four. Additionally, a chair for Anthony Mackie joined in the fun next. And then one for Sebastian Stan.

It seems to us like Marvel Studios is announcing the MCU’s new Avengers team for Avengers: DoomsdayOpens in a new tab. We don’t know how many more folks will join the team, we guess it depends on just how long this Instagram Live runs for.
We’ll let you know as soon as we do. We are kind of said that it’s not Thor 5 though, for some time a question of whether Thor 5Opens in a new tab would come to pass has been up in the air, and we would have been pro that announcement as well.
