Netflix’s latest promo opens with a reminder. The streaming site wants you to remember it’s home to some great prestige dramas. That includes critically-acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning shows like The Crown and The Queen‘s Gambit. Netflix wants you to remember that so you can appreciate that it’s also home to a very different type of Emmy-winning show. And this first trailer the third season of Tim Miller and David Fincher‘s anthology series Love Death + Robots is as wild, funny, dangerous, and surreal as you’d hope.
Of course, that would be true even without the comparison to stories about chess and the royal family.
Love Death + Robots Volume 3 trailer looks like a normal season of the show. Which means it will be one of the most bonkers show on television. It features a full slate of creatures, monsters, androids, unusual people, and a dead naked giant. Like we said, a totally normal season.
Oh yeah, and there’s an adorable cat along for the fun, too. Nothing better happen to that cat. Everyone and everything else, though? Totally fine.
Netflix has yet to reveal much about the new season of the show, which traces its roots back to the 1981 animated film Heavy Metal. Volume One, which debuted in 2019, featured 18 episodes. Volume Two, which followed in 2021, only had half as many. Based on the different episodes teased here, all of which come from a different creator and studio with their own animation style, season three will have at least eight episodes.

We do know when they’ll all arrive on the streaming site. Love Death + Robots Volume 3 trailer came just shy of its extreme return on May 20. Whether or not this new installment involves any royal family members or chess tournaments remains to be seen. But if it does, we know those episodes won’t be anything like The Crown or The Queen’s Gambit.
