THE LORD OF THE RINGS Cast Reunion We All Need

In times good and bad, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings proves a reliable source of wisdom, compassion, and hope. Ditto Peter Jackson’s three-part cinematic adaptation, which has the added bonus of being easier to get through in a single afternoon. (It’d have to be a long afternoon, but nevertheless.) An epic 17 years after the release of the final chapter in the trilogy, The Return of the King, the cast of the Lord of the Rings films comes together once more. Perhaps to inspire that same wisdom, compassion, and hope. Perhaps only to give fans a pleasant afternoon. Perhaps because Josh Gad had some serious dirt on all of them and knows his way around an extortion plot. No matter the reason, they’re here, in the form of host Gad’s “One Zoom to Rule Them All” digital reunion special.

Present and accounted for are fan favorite cast members Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Samwise), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Dominic Monaghan (Merry), and Billy Boyd (Pippin), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Andy Serkis (Gollum/Sméagol), Sean Bean (Boromir), Miranda Otto (Éowyn), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli), and Liv Tyler (Arwen). Also along for the fun are director Peter Jackson and writer Philippa Boyens.

The Fellowship of the Ring stands tall in Lord of the Rings.

New Line Cinema

Gad rallied the Fellowship (and then some) for his pandemic-era web series Reunited Apart, which assembles the cast and crew members of beloved films of yore for Zoom chats for the enjoyment of the viewing public. The subjects of episodes thus far have included The Goonies (another Sean Astin-led project), Splash, and Back to the Future, all of which are still available to watch.

But today, our eyes are on the Lord of the Rings cast and all their memories from crafting perhaps the most involving fantasy epic in 21st century cinema… granted, some other fandoms might have something to say about that. In any event, enjoy the chat above, and donate to the episode’s spotlit charity No Kid Hungry.
