From the moment Leia Organa sent her desperate plea to General Kenobi, one thing has been clear about the galaxy far, far away: it’s exhausting to live there. From blockades and Clone Wars, to Rebellions and First Orders, there’s never a moment’s peace. Because when the fate of the entire universe is always at stake, there’s not a lot of chances for R&R. Until now. Because this year even the dark side is going to catch some rays. Disney+ is headed for fun in the sun with the newly announced LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation. But the first trailer shows it’s hard to kick back and relax when you’re not used to doing either.
Lucasfilm and Disney+’s latest Star Wars LEGO movie will feature limbo, piña coladas, and a whole lot of Anakin’s greatest enemy, sand. Set after The Rise of Skywalker, it will see some of our favorite characters trying to enjoy their hard fought victory over evil. But vacation won’t mean a vacation from problems. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:
Looking for a much-needed break from stormtroopers and TIE fighters, Finn arranges a surprise vacation for his friends Rey, Poe, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO, aboard the ultra-luxurious Galactic Starcruiser, the Halcyon. But Finn’s plan to have one last hurrah together quickly goes awry when he’s separated from the group. While searching for his friends, he encounters three Force ghosts: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Leia Organa, who each share their own unexpected stories of vacations gone wrong, helping him to understand that holidays are about more than just having fun.
Oh wow! They’re going to the place that is also Disney’s real-life Star Wars hotel. What were the odds?! (You don’t have to be C-3PO to know they were 100%.) The film isn’t just a marketing opportunity, though. It’s the third LEGO crossover at Disney+. It follows LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and its spooky sequel “LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales.”
LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation also boasts an all-star cast, including some famous alums reprising their iconic roles. It features “Weird Al” Yankovic as Vic Vankoh; Yvette Nicole Brown as Colvett Valeria; Thomas Lennon as Wick Cooper; Paul F. Tompkins as Rad; Dee Bradley Baker as Boba Fett; Ashly Burch as the Tour Droid; Kyliegh Curran as Sidero; Anthony Daniels as C-3PO; Trevor Devall as Emperor Palpatine; Allie Feder as Sy Snootles; Jake Green as Poe Dameron; Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker; Ross Marquand as Han Solo; Omar Miller as Finn; Kevin Michael Richardson as Jabba the Hutt; Matt Sloan as Darth Vader; James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi; Kelly Marie Tran as Rose; Helen Sadler as Rey Skywalker; Billy Dee Williams as Lando (Holovid); Matthew Wood as Ben Solo; and Shelby Young as Leia Organa.
We’d love to visit any beach with that group of performers. We’d also vacation with those characters, even Palpatine and Vader. It would be worth the risk hanging out with them if it meant possibly seeing Obi-Wan in a Hawaiian shirt. But until Disney opens up a Star Wars beach resort we’ll at least have this movie. It premieres at Disney+ on August 5, 2022.
