Kurt and Wyatt Russell to Star in Legendary’s Untitled Monster Series

We cannot get enough of big ol’ monsters doing monstery stuff. Fighting each other, climbing on stuff, breathing fire and the like. And in the case of Legendary’s Monsterverse titles, we add “interact with very good actors” to that list. Throughout the series of movies, monsters like Kong and Godzilla have equally titanic human costars. We’re talking Bryan Cranston, Brie Larson, and Kyle Chandler. But for the upcoming Apple Original untitled monster series, it will require a father-son acting dynasty to go toe-to-toe with the monsters. That’s right, Kurt Russell and his equally talented son Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) will costar in the show.

Apple TV+ today revealed that the Russells have joined the cast of its upcoming Apple Original live-action monster series. The show is a Legendary Television production based on Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise. They will star alongside an expanding ensemble cast. Previous announcements include Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

Emmy Award-nominated director Matthew Shakman (WandaVision) will direct the first two episodes and serve as executive producer on the untitled series, which is produced for Apple TV+ by Legendary Television and executive produced by co-creators Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise), who serves as showrunner, and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye).

While the show does not have a title yet, we know it will take place some time after the events of 2014’s Godzilla when the titular lizard flattened San Francisco during a battle with Titans. Now that everyone knows monsters exist, what will happen? Well, as the show’s official synopsis says, “the untitled series will explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.” Fun!

We love the idea of a family-focused drama to use real-life family members. Adds some verisimilitude. Not that giant monsters aren’t super real.

Legendary’s untitled Monster Series on AppleTV+ will stomp onto our screens soon.
