Every time a new Batman debuts, the internet discourse leads to the inevitable “who is the best Caped Crusader?” debate. And the answer is usually whichever Batman you saw on screen first. But as for who has the best Batman voice? Well, we’re going to have to take a stand here. It’s definitely Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in several projects over the last 30 years, starting with Batman: The Animated Series. He continued his role in Batman Beyond, Justice League Unlimited, the Arkham games, and several animated movies, further cementing his GOAT status.
Now, in an interview with YouTube channel The Movie Dweeb, Kevin Conroy proved his status as “best Batman voice” one more time, when asked to read some of Robert Pattinson’s lines from The Batman. He’s asked to deliver the lines “Fear is a tool. And when that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call. It’s a warning.” You can watch him ace this bat challenge down below:
No offense to Robert Pattinson, who we think is fantastic, but hearing Conroy say these lines? Still totally gives us chills. We’re not sure if Kevin Conroy is playing Batman in any future projects, but we hope that Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves bring him on board to voice the character again for the upcoming animated Batman: Caped Crusader HBO Max series. As the saying goes, why mess with perfection?
To be fair, some other voice actors have done very fine jobs of doing the Batman voice over the years. Most notably, Peter Weller in the animated The Dark Knight Returns, and Bruce Greenwood in Under the Red Hood. But in the final analysis, we believe that no one beats Conroy. And for that matter, no one beats Mark Hamill as his version of the Joker. These two gentlemen are still the all-time Gotham greats.
