We love a good internet conspiracy. And this latest one revolves around a movie we’re very excited for: Digger. The question at hand… Could Digger actually be a musical? Twitter User Jason Pargin certainly thinks so, and he’s cut together a video of some pretty compelling evidence. Digger already seems to be Tom Cruise’s most bizarre performance to date, and if it is also a musical, we would declare #Winning. Take a look at the evidence that Digger is actually a musical below, and decide for yourself.
42,000 people want to believe that Digger is a musical. And after reviewing the tapes, we have to agree there are an unusual number of sweeping camera angles, overwrought gestures, and even a literal split! Just imagine Tom Cruise’s dulcet tones singing an ode to oil on top of all of that drama—and, well, you might really have something. Some of those Digger clips really do look like they’ve come right out of a musical dance number. It tickles us to consider, in any case. We love a harmless conspiracy theory. Other users point out that movies such as Sweeney Todd, Wonka, and Mean Girls hid a musical in the marketing. And so, hey, why not Digger?
Ultimately, Digger probably isn’t a musical. And the evidence we’re seeing simply speaks to the incredibly high level of eccentricity at play in this Tom Cruise outing. After all, add a nutty oil tycoon, a global disaster, and an unrecognizable Cruise to the mix, and you’ll definitely end up with something wacky. But the beauty of a conspiracy is that you can always ask… What if? And like we said, if Digger did prove to be a musical, we think it could just rank as one of the best movies ever made. That would be true vision.
