THE MANDALORIAN’s IG-11 Returns in STAR WARS Kids Short

To paraphrase Mark Twain, “Too much of anything is bad, but too much The Mandalorian is barely enough.” However, there is one character from the show we wished had stuck around a lot longer. We would have loved to see more of the bounty hunter droid-turned-babysitter voiced by Taika Waititi, IG-11. No one is “ever really gone” in the galaxy far, far away though. He’s back in a new Star Wars Kids “Mission Fleet” short. And while it might not be canon, it’s still nice to see him back and protecting Grogu from bad people.

“Even a Mandalorian Needs Help” is the newest short from Star Wars Kids (which we first came across at io9). Despite clocking in at just 80 seconds, it packs quite a punch. Or rather, quite a bunch of blaster shots. It opens with our favorite surrogate dad cruising on a speeder with his little green son floating in a pod next to him. Trouble arises though when they approach some stormtrooper checkpoints.

At first the pair blows right past them. But eventually Din Djarin must fight to save Baby Yoda. Fortunately he has learned over the course of their adventures that even the bravest Mandalorian warriors sometimes need help. So when things start to look dire he dials up some assistance. And you can’t do better than a droid programmed to protect The Child at all costs.

That’s when his old bounty hunter colleague, IG-11, springs into action. Combined with Grogu using the Force to finish off the bad guys, the day ends in victory, as the pair continues on.

While none of this is canon, it’s still fun to see this mechanical baby protector extraordinaire back in action. And it gives us a little hope he could return in the future. There’s no such thing as too much Mandalorian. And we definitely didn’t get enough IG-11.
