The How I Met Your Father trailer reveals one important truth. Hilary Duff grows up to be Kim Cattrall. And somehow, these two casting choices encapsulate the TV viewing experience for a certain generation. Sex and the City meets Lizzie McGuire and apparently, their mashup comes out to be the How I Met Your Mother reboot, How I Met Your Father. The first official How I Met Your Father trailer brings us our first look at footage from the show.
The year is… after 2022. We look back on 2022 with great nostalgia. “It was hard to live in the moment in 2022,” Cattrall notes as an older Hilary Duff a.k.a Sophie. The trailer takes us through a series of laughs, mishaps, and more, as Sophie and her friends navigate life in NYC in 2022. Things seem dire in the How I Met Your Father trailer… But the stakes are much lower than they are in real life, at least.
According to TVLine, the logline for the show shares:
[How I Met Your Father] catapults us back to the year 2022, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends — Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran) and Sid (Suraj Sharma) — are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.
We don’t know yet how exactly this show ties into How I Met Your Mother. How I Met Your Father is a HIMYM reboot, so we expect some connection. But from now, the trailer isn’t telling. It would have been fun to catch a glimpse of some kind of easter egg, but we guess we’ll have to wait for the show for that. For now, we’ll enjoy the nostalgia, fictional and real. Maybe in the next HIMYM/HIMYF reboot, we’ll have the technology to use our phones in the shower.
