Today is the kind of beautiful morning even Winifred Sanderson can enjoy. Halloween fans awoke to discover Disney has released the first teaser for a sequel nearly three decades in the making. Salem’s most infamous trio are back to run amuck, amuck, amuck again, again, again in Hocus Pocus 2. The Sanderson sisters are on the hunt for revenge, and they plan on making sure everyone knows they’re back in town.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will resurrect their iconic characters in Hocus Pocus 2. And this first teaser trailer shows how they’ll find their way back from the dead. Some young Salem citizens will accidentally summon their fellow witches. The Sandersons clearly have not forgotten what the town did to them before, though. That will lead to an all-new adventure with all of Salem at risk. Here’s the official synopsis for the Disney+ original action-comedy:
It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.
The three sisters aren’t the only ones who will find themselves rising once more in Hocus Pocus 2. Doug Jones will also return as Winifred’s dead ex-boyfriend Billy Butcherson. (Only this time we’ll know he’s not an evil zombie.)
Anne Fletcher (Dumplin, The Proposal) directs. Hocus Pocus 2 also stars Sam Richardson (I Think You Should Leave), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), Lilia Buckingham (Dirt), Froyan Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), and Tony Hale (Veep).
The Sanderson sisters will say hello, cruel world just in time for the spooky season. Hocus Pocus 2 arrives on Disney+ on September 30. Which might feel like a long way away, but after almost 30 years that’s nothing.
