GHOSTED Cameos Deliver the MCU Team Cap Reunions We Need

Spoiler Alert

We expected to love Apple TV+’s new movie Ghosted. Who wouldn’t love Chris Evans playing a damsel in distress as Ana de Armas competently attempts to rescue him? But the true gift Ghosted gives to many has nothing to do with the movie itself. No, Ghosted offers MCU fans everywhere a series of reunions they’ve been hoping to see by way of some well-chosen cameos. Are these the reunions we deserve? No. But we’ll take what we can get at this point. In Ghosted, Chris Evans’ Cole gets himself a bounty on his head—and who should come to collect but dueling bounty hunters played by Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie. That’s right, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and Sam Wilson all came back together again… kind of.

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s MCU cameos really only last a couple of scenes in Ghosted. Anthony Mackie arrives first to try to kill Chris Evans’ Cole. But he’s unsuccessful because yet another hit-man, played by a non-MCU cameo actor, John Cho, interrupts to take him out. Cho, however, is also dispatched by one Sebastian Stan. That’s where we get our glorious Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers reunion, and in true Bucky and Steve fashion, Bucky is trying to kill Steve. We’re getting Winter Soldier flashbacks over here. However, it turns out Anthony Mackie’s character, aptly titled, “the Grandson of Sam,” is not really dead. And he then kills Sebastian Stan’s character and dies himself. It really gives MCU Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. We bet Sam would love to hear he had the last laugh.

What we’re not laughing about is that, truly, Ghosted‘s cameo sequence lasts about as long as the time the Marvel versions of these characters spent together in their last MCU movies. In Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Bucky Barnes have literal minutes on-screen at the same time. And at the end of his time in the MCU (for now), Steve Rogers elects to go back in time, leaving both his best friends alone in present day… No wonder they’d like to have a go at him now. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that, one day, the MCU decides Bucky, Sam, and Steve should get a real reunion. But we won’t hold our breath.

Still, as fans, we’re just happy to see them all together again. In addition to Stan and Mackie’s MCU cameos, Ghosted also features yet another Marvel actor. Ryan Reynolds, who is soon to be the MCU’s Deadpool, also arrives on the Ghosted scene. He plays yet another bounty hunter who is Ana de Armas’ ex. It’s no party without Deadpool.

Ghosted is now streaming on Apple TV+.
