With the world still buzzing over the ending of Stranger Things 5, star Finn Wolfhard took to the SNL stage as a host. And he killed it, delivering a hilarious opening monologue that did not shy away from poking a little fun at himself. As expected, it was full of nods to the show that’s held him captive for over a decade now. An even greater delight was seeing Wolfhard reunite with his buddies and fellow costars, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo, as they joined him on stage.
Watch Finn Wolfhard’s Opening Monologue Here:
The entire monologue pokes fun at Wolfhard growing up on the show, opening up with a joke about 400 million people watching him go through puberty. And grow up on the show he did, as the actor was only 12 when season one dropped. He was known as the “Stanger Things kid” for a looong time. Probably still is, to some. The segment jokes about him having his first kiss on screen, his voice changing over the seasons, and now being old enough to drink. There’s even a short clip of a scene from season one that was edited to make his voice sound deeper. Wolfhard’s monologue closes with former costars McLaughlin and Matarazzo joining him on stage to kick off the show.
Of course, the Stranger Things jokes don’t stop there. I mean, for a show that’s been following him around for ten years, would we expect anything less? McLaughlin and Matarazzo rejoin Wolfhard for a hilarious spoof on Conformity Gate. (Yeah, yeah. We get it. We’re a little delusional). The sketch shows several outcomes of what could’ve been, including one where the trio gossip about their lives in a very Sex in the City way. It is almost weird to see them talking this way, but they are adults now. And is nice to see the three of them together on screen again.

All in all, Wolfhard did a pretty phenomenal job as SNL host. Between his delivery and knowing how to play to an audience, he has a knack for comedy, that’s for sure. Maybe we’ll see Wolfhard tackle some more comedic roles in the future. For now, his SNL monologue will live carefree in our heads.
