With the release of last year’s Wonder WomanOpens in a new tab, and with Captain MarvelOpens in a new tab coming out next year, it’s seems we are finally in the age of the female superhero. And not just as a side character, or the lone woman in the group shot (lookin’ at you Black Widow. But hey, I hear you’re getting your own movie too!) Even the next X-Men movie is simply called Dark PhoenixOpens in a new tab, putting its main female character front and center. And there is more to come – Birds of PreyOpens in a new tab, Supergirl, Batgirl. At least when it comes to superhero movies, the future is indeed female.

Now a Twitter user named GabiOpens in a new tab has made a video edit of cinema’s modern superhero women, from both MarvelOpens in a new tab and DCOpens in a new tab. And it is exactly the inspiring and amazing thing we all needed to see right about now. The video has tons of clips from Wonder Woman, moments from Captain Marvel‘s trailer, not to mention all the women of the MCU. Oddly, there was no Harley Quinn in the video, but at least Mera from Aquaman was there representing DC besides Wonder Woman.
Of course, we still have a long way to go when it comes to female representation in superhero movies, but there’s nothing wrong in celebrating what has been achieved so far, and all the amazing actresses who have brought these characters to life already. And hopefully in a few years, we can watch an updated version of this video that includes way more women heroes than we can even conceive of right now. And maybe She-Hulk will be among them. (You listening Marvel?)
