DUNE: THE STORYBOARDS Book Launches with Kickstarter Special Edition

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films have more than revived interest in Frank Herbert’s seminal sci-fi fantasy. They’ve made spice, Arrakis, and the Kwisatz Haderach a ubiquitous part of modern-day pop culture. Now, fans will have yet another way to see how the director brought the iconic novel and its sequel to the big screen with Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies. It will offer viewers a new behind-the-scenes look at the films’ development.

Legendary Comics and Rocketship Entertainment have announced the launch of a Kickstarter pre-sale for Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies. It will feature hundreds of storyboard illustrations by Sam Hudecki. They’ll show the process of turning Dune into both Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two. But why stop there when Denis Villeneuve didn’t? Exactly! That’s why it will also include images from his upcoming third installment based on Dune: Messiah.

The book—written by author and film scholar Simon Ward (The Art and Making of Alien: Covenant and The Art of Kong: Skull Island)—will allow fans to see exactly how the director developed his version of Frank Herbert’s space saga. And Dune: The Storyboards will include “everything from small character moments to the story’s major action sequences.”

“Denis Villeneuve envisions every shot with precision, and Sam Hudecki translates that vision beautifully onto paper,” said Robert Napton, SVP & Publisher of Legendary Comics, in a statement. “Bringing their creative relationship to life in this book is truly exciting – and I can’t imagine a better storyteller than Simon Ward to capture it.”

Dune: The Storyboards – Imagining the Dune Movies will arrive in stores in early 2027. Fans who pre-order it now via the Kickstarter campaign will get a copy that won’t be sold elsewhere. Those who act quickly can also nab one of just 500 Portfolio Edition copies. That limited, special edition comes with bonuses, too. It ships with an exclusive slipcase package, special hardcover, a three-print portfolio featuring illustrations from Sam Hudecki, and a pin set.

The good news is that when you wear your pins, you won’t have to explain what they mean. You’ll just have to tell them about this book. Dune: The Storyboards‘ Kickstarter is live now.
