DOCTOR SLEEP Trailer Is Big Trouble for Those with the Shining

The Shining still stands as one of the greatest films of all-time, and we don’t just mean in the horror genre. As much as we enjoy revisiting the Overlook Hotel, it’s hard to imagine that Danny Torrance would ever want to go back to the place where his dad went mad amid a manse of ghosts and demons. It would have to take something extraordinary for him to willingly return to the site of his family’s destruction, but the final trailer for Doctor Sleep shows exactly what could make the unimaginable a reality. Four decades after he left his father frozen in the snow, Danny Torrance will try to help a young girl escape the clutches of a group who eat the power of those with “the shine” by facing them down at that infamous hotel.

“Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra (Kyliegh Curran), a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.”

We’re loathe to ever root against Rebecca Ferguson, but we really hope Rose the Hat ends up celebrating New Year’s Eve with Jack Torrance in 1921.

Directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus), the movie is both a sequel to Stephen King’s iconic novel and Stanley Kubrick’s equally revered film. And as is evident from this trailer, as our own Lindsey Romain found when she visited the movie’s set, Doctor Sleep painstakingly recreated the Overlook Hotel originally built in 1980. (Though admittedly it was in better shape back then.) At least returning to the Overlook will be fun for us, even if it’s terrible for Danny Torrance.

Doctor Sleep will shine in theaters on October 18. Before that, make sure you also check out what Ewan McGregor had to tell Lindsey about playing Danny Torrance.
