This DIY Flying Machine Conquers Gravity with 50 Drone Motors

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. It’s a famous saying, but more than ever, it seems perfectly true. And one thing that humans have striven to do for a long time is to capture the power of flight. Of course, we have planes these days and other ways to soar through the air. But something about having a pair of wings or a flying machine that you strap to yourself seems to give off a siren’s song.

The latest flying machine attempt comes courtesy of YouTuber PeterSripol. Check out his process and creation here:

In his video, Sripol takes viewers through the creation of his sci-fi contraption. Do not try this at home, he warns. And we have to agree emphatically. Between speedy 3D printing, drone motors with questionable battery life, and duct tape… We feel really happy that everything went as well as it did. But it must be said, the flying machine does look like a lot of fun.

The concept of it seems straightforward. But we assume it’s anything but simple. Sripol attaches 50 drone engines to a harness, adds a parachute, and then basically… flies. We wouldn’t exactly term it an elegant flight machine. But it does the job. As long as you don’t mind the screech of 50 drone engines whirring at your back. Anyone who has experienced the wasps’ nest-like buzz of even one drone is cringing at the thought.

Still, the flying machine verges on magical. We can’t imagine what it feels like to soar through the air like that. On their more successful rides, Sripol and his partners seem to glide on swells of air. The whole thing has an air of fantasy to it. Is it worth the risk? Probably not. Was it pretty cool? 100% yes. Put us down on the waiting list for the safety tested edition.
