Apple TV+ has debuted several series with some truly high profile talent since its launch in November 2019, with yet another intriguing new series set to debut soon. Defending Jacob is a new eight-episode mystery/drama series, based on the 2012 mystery novel by William Landay. It stars former Captain America Chris Evans, along with Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, It’s Jaeden Martell, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber of American Gods, Get Out’s Betty Gabriel, House of Card’s Sakina Jaffrey, and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons.

You can check out the trailer for the new series down below:

The series follows the trial of a young boy accused of murdering a classmate in a small Massachusetts town—a crime the shatters his family and the town around them. At the center of this mystery is the boy’s father, assistant district attorney Andy Barber, played by Chris Evans. Over the course of the series, Barber will find himself struggling between his sworn oath to uphold the law, and his unconditional love and devotion for his son Jacob, played by Martell. This will be a reunion of sorts for Jaeden Martell and Chris Evans, who recently starred in Knives Out together last year. The series was filmed in Newton, Massachusetts, where the events in the story are said to taken place.

Logan screenwriter Mark Bomback created, wrote, and executive produces the series. All eight episodes were directed by Morten Tyldum, who previously helmed the Oscar-nominated drama The Imitation Game.

Although based on a novel and not actual true events, Defending Jacob will nevertheless draw in many viewers who love the true crime genre, and movies like Gone Girl.  The series will premiere with three episodes exclusively on the Apple TV+ service on April 24, and will then by followed by new episodes weekly every Friday through May 29.
