Sir David Attenborough, the beloved broadcaster and naturalist, has lived an extraordinary life. For 50 years he has traveled to every corner of our beautiful world. He has brought the amazing creatures who inhabit it right into our homes. He’s also seen firsthand the devastating destruction mankind has brought upon the planet. Now he’s going to share his witness statement with all of us, in his new Netflix documentary.
And David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet‘s powerful first trailer shows it will also serve as warning. But one filled entirely with hope.
“In this unique feature documentary, titled David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, the celebrated naturalist reflects upon both the defining moments of his lifetime and the devastating changes he has seen. Coming to Netflix October 4, 2020, the film addresses some of the biggest challenges facing life on our planet, providing a snapshot of global nature loss in a single lifetime. With it comes a powerful message of hope for future generations as Attenborough reveals the solutions to help save our planet from disaster.”
Climate change has been a consistent theme during the legendary nature historian’s documentaries. Especially in the 21st century. But this trailer shows Attenborough will be addressing it head on, with a more personal story. Its one that is also likely to be far more emotional too.
“I’ve worked with David on many projects throughout my career, but to collaborate on this film,
which is so important at this time, has been a real privilege,” said Keith Scholey, director & executive producer, in a statement. “At 94 years old, his knowledge and insight of the natural world remains as relevant and cherished today as it was the first time he introduced the British public to pangolins and sloths on television. As we rebuild from the pandemic, Sir David’s reflections and messages of hope feel particularly timely and relevant. He not only addresses why we must urgently mend our relationship with nature, but also offers solutions to ensuring a safe and sustainable future for our planet and its people.”
David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet come sot Netflix on October 4. His book of the same name hits shelves on October 20. Hopefully people everywhere take his witness statement as seriously as we all need them to.
