The Flowers on Daniel’s Shirt Mean ‘Immersed in Love’ in THE VAMPIRE LESTAT

Listen, what is being in fandom for if not to analyze every last detail and conclude that Devil’s Minion is the best couple ever? In a recently shared, close-up look at The Vampire Lestat episode six’s costumes, The Vampire Lestat‘s costume cutter Wing Lee offered us a better peek at Daniel Molloy’s sleek new scarlet shirt. We must say this shirt caught our eye from the get. It’s not exactly living in Daniel’s usual black-as-my-soul place… Even given Daniel’s overall upgrade from ill-fit plaid and band t-shirts in his new vampire form. This shirt is all sensual red, not to mention it’s shiny… And, of course, loudly floral. Since we saw the shirt, we at Nerdist were curious which flower exactly was decorating Daniel’s new, evidently custom, button-down. And bright young reporters with a point of view, as we are, we asked Lee this very question, and he let us know it was a gerbera flower print. It turns out that in the language of flowers, the flowers on Daniel’s shirt in The Vampire Lestat mean that he’s being “immersed in love.”

Well, we certainly think that’s fitting. We dove into what the red gerbera flower represents and found a few apt readings of this floral fabric shirt, which celebrates the first time Armand and Daniel are officially on the same team in The Vampire Lestat. Partners, if you will.

First, as mentioned, Daniel’s red gerbera daisy button-up in The Vampire Lestat episode six means that he’s fully immersed in love. Bloom & Wild shares, “Red gerbera flowers have a meaning of unconscious love or to be fully immersed and surrounded by love. They’re perfect to send as anniversary flowers or romantic gesture flowers to express your everlasting love for someone.” Considering that Daniel just found out that Armand is in love and has been a part of his life for 52 years, we’d also call “unconscious love” a pretty apt description for the pair’s entanglement.

But, additionally, Daniel wearing a shirt, something that literally surrounds him, bearing a flower that suggests he’s immersed in love, truly says it all in The Vampire Lestat. Especially since, as Lee reveals, this shirt is a custom creation for Daniel in our world… which makes us feel like it’s a little bit more special than some of the other things Daniel has been wearing up to this point. So, it doesn’t feel like a stretch to imagine that, inside the world of The Vampire Lestat, it’s Armand’s doing that Daniel is wearing these flowers. Shiny, floral, and blood red do feel a little bit more Armand than Daniel, after all.

And given that Armand is the kind of character who becomes obsessed with blenders and Minecraft, we can easily imagine him looking into the meaning of flowers to buy Daniel the ideal murder husband shirt for such an important night. He just wants Daniel to know that he is beloved and always will be. The red gerbera serving as the right flower to give for an anniversary or an expression of everlasting love also fits in perfectly in this The Vampire Lestat moment. It’s Devil’s Minion’s first (present?) anniversary of creating chaos together. And we love them.

Of further interest, Blood & Wild notes of the red gerbera flower, “The Egyptians believe that they represent a closeness to nature and devotion to the sun.” And who is sporting a tan and daywalking, oh yes, that’s Daniel! Devotion to the sun if we’ve ever seen it. Truly, Daniel could not be wearing a more apt flower in The Vampire Lestat. Good job, Armand!

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, Devil’s Minion is the most romantic of couples. We wish them well with their future terrible behavior and good luck with each other.
