I really need to make this clear: I am NOT a Pamela Voorhees apologist. I would never defend the murder of innocent people. Rather, I am a Pam Voorhees superfan. Huge difference. Huge. But it turns out that despite my lifelong love for the iconic vengeful mother I still have more to learn about her. The full trailer for Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake teases a secret that predates the tragic event that changed horror forever.
This trailer is full of little nods to the original film. That includes young Jason swimming with his counselors, Pam in her blue sweater, a machete to the head, and Pam referencing a “mask.” But it’s the new teases that are the most intriguing. This trailer suggests Crystal Lake will answer questions we never thought to ask. It also promises Jason will play a bigger role—possibly literally—than many might have expected. Here’s the show’s official synopsis from Peacock:
A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?

The literal answer to that question this time around is Linda Cardellina. She stars as Pam. Other cast regulars include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. The show will also feature Callum Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik in recurring roles.
The eight-episode season comes from creator-writer-showrunner-executive producer Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry, Warrior). All episodes will premiere at Peacock on Thursday, October 15. Will it make me a Pamela Voorhees apologist? No, but this trailer makes me confident it won’t make me love her any less.
