Mark November 15 on your calendars, because the casts of Critical Role and The Rings of Power will be heading to TwitchCon in San Diego for The Rings of Power: A Middle-Earth One-Shot. The merged casts, led by Critical Role co-founder Liam O’Brien, will embark on their adventure starting at 11AM at the Glitch Theater. Who exactly is attending from each cast is under wraps for the moment. We also don’t know what TTRPG system the game will use. While just about any high-fantasy setting can easily slot into D&D‘s 5e and 5.5e, Critical Role of course has its own TTRPG system, Daggerheart, that they may fall back on. Or perhaps they’ll even utilize The One Ring, The Lord of the Rings‘ own tabletop roleplaying games.

This won’t be the first time that Critical Role has danced with The Lord of the Rings, having teamed-up with Warners Bros in 2017 one-shot called Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. We don’t know what kind of characters the cast is going to come up with this time, but in contrast to Shadow of War, I have a sneaking suspicion that not everyone is going to come to the table with orcs and trolls prepared. Depending on how many cast members of The Rings of Power show up, it might end up being the most star-studded actual play one-shot of Critical Role’s long run.

If you’re hoping to check out the actual play one-shot, make sure to grab your passes for TwitchCon 2026, as the event itself has no individual ticketing. More details should be released soon, and we’ll know about what’s to come next month for all the Critters. We’re excited to see how the two casts will interact with one another, and what characters they end up bringing to the table. And of course, what cosplay everyone wears!
