Clueless is one of those rare iconic movies that has yet to receive a sequel or reboot. It stands alone in all of its mid-’90s glory. And honestly, that’s a good thing. But it doesn’t mean we don’t love seeing its cast of characters come back to life. In a year of Super Bowl cinema, Clueless joins Breaking Bad in reuniting its beloved characters for a Super Bowl ad. Alicia Silverstone returns as Cher and Elisa Donovan brings Amber back to life in Rakuten’s commercial for the big game.
For those who don’t know, Rakuten is an app that lets you get cash back when you shop. That’s absolutely perfect for shopping-genius Cher. And her big heart moves her to share the love with all of us as she crushes her debate.
Alicia Silverstone slips perfectly back into her Clueless plaid in this commercial, gum and all. And she really delivers us that signature well-meaning, but delightfully self-absorbed, cheer that is all Cher. It almost does make us want to see what Cher and the rest of the Clueless crew is up to all these years later. But for now, we guess it’s best kept to this perfectly nostalgic Clueless Super Bowl ad.
