Disney Voice Actors Bring Classic Characters to Life in Rare Clips

Disney’s animated movies and shorts have been a classic part of people’s childhoods for generations now. And there’s something truly magical about seeing how the voices came to life. For instance, did you know that the actors did fully costumed versions of the movies while the animators scribbled away? Here’s a chance to see what the actors behind some of the most famous Disney voices look like.

Some of the scenes are completely surreal, like two very serious-looking people duetting as a chicken and Donald Duck in front of a symphony orchestra. And some are just enchanting. We are all the little birds and mice coming in closer to hear Ilene Woods sing “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” as Cinderella. Additionally, other Disney character voice actor highlights include Eleanor Audley as Maleficent acting with a tied-up man dressed like a prince for Sleeping Beauty. It’s also funny to watch a group of men sing like dogs for the chorus at the pound in Lady and the Tramp. Though, of course, that scene will still break your heart.

We saw this magical compilation of Disney voice actors thanks to Laughing Squid. Something that really stands out is that most of the actors record together, unlike sessions now that are mostly solo. On top of actors reciting lines and singing songs, foley artists also add sound effects for everything from cows to cars. And in case you’re wondering, yes, horse hooves are recreated with two coconut halves.

Thomas H. Smith’s YouTube channel includes other side-by-side comparisons of Disney voice actors. You can check out some videos for newer movies like Aladdin and The Nightmare Before Christmas. We definitely can’t forget about other talented voice actors, like Keith David and his unmistakable bass and Kevin Conroy’s 30-year run as Batman. Also, do yourself a favor and watch Keanu Reeves in the recording booth as Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4. You won’t be sorry.
