A big surprise last year was the announcement of so many classic X-Men joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. But with news of returning characters like Professor X, Cyclops, and others, we had to wonder, just where is Storm? Halle Berry has continuously denied returning for Doomsday in interviews. And this question has been asked a lot lately, during interviews with Avengers Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo for their new movie, Crime 101. Of course, Halle Berry continues to insist she’s not in Doomsday. But during a joint press junket interview, Chris Hemsworth formally invited her to join the fun in Avengers: Secret Wars. Here’s what Hemsworth had to say when Cinemablend asked about the possibility of a Thor/Storm meeting pairing:
I think [Thor would] be like, ‘Oh, we’re the same. We have something in common, the incredible wielding of the weather patterns talent.’ I’m gonna make sure [Halle is] in the next one.
In the pages of Marvel Comics, Thor and Storm have bonded over their ability to call down the lightning more than once. Marvel even elevated Storm to the role of Asgarian goddess before, and gave her own mystical hammer, Stormcaster. Can Marvel Studios resist a scene in Avengers: Secret Wars where Ororo Munroe uses her mutant powers to summon lightning, only for the Odinson to channel it through his hammer at Doctor Doom? We think not.
Judging from her giggling, nervous reactions, we think it’s pretty likely that Halle Berry appears in Secret Wars as Storm. Especially because in other recent interviews, she maintains that there “are other rounds” in which Storm may appear. Well, that sure sounds like Secret Wars to us. And if rumors are true that Marvel is splitting Secret Wars into two films? Then we may get more of Storm than previously thought. Now, let’s get Famke Janssen to return as Jean Grey, and it’s a true party.
