UPDATE, 8/20/19: Last year, Planters made snack food lovers’ dreams come to (orange) life, with a limited time return of their classic Cheez Balls. They proved such a hit though they are now making them a permanent part of their lineup, which is only the second most exciting Cheez Balls news of the day. To celebrate their full-time status they have also announced a contest for fans to win Cheez Powder Shakers, so you can dust anything you want in Cheez Balls flavor without having to wait ’til you eat an entire can.
“Fans who want their own Cheez Balls Cheez Powder can comment or tweet @MRPEANUT with food they’d top with Cheez Powder using #CheezBallContest from Tuesday, August 20 to Sunday, September 1. 350 lucky Cheez Ball fans will score their very own limited-edition shakers of Cheez Powder to bring that beloved taste to any food.”
Hungry Cheez Balls fans in New York will also get a chance to see what can be done with the powder-only flavoring on August 21, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET at Astor Place. Mr. Peanut and the food truck Made from Scratch will “incorporate Cheez Powder into the menu – from Mac & Cheez Powder Poppers to Gooey Gouda Grilled Cheez.” Those who stop by the truck will also be able to snag a can of the dust themselves.
We assume napkins will be included, but who would want them? We’ve never wasted any of that cheez powder before and we’re certainly not going to start now.
6/30/2018 – You know something is truly tasty when you’re willing to repeatedly cut your hand on an aluminum can to eat it, which is why for years orange-dust lovers everywhere were willing to risk personal injury to chow down on Planters Cheez Balls, the only cheesy puff food endorsed by a sentient peanut wearing a monocle. Sadly, though, the classic snack was discontinued in 2006. Loyal fans have never given up the fight to see it return to grocery shelves, and now Planters is finally read to give them what they want, because they are bringing the snack back this summer for a limited time.
Just in time for summer BBQs, Planters is bringing back Cheez Balls starting on July 1st for a limited run. The company says this is partly in response to fans who were so eager to eat them again they started a petition demanding their return. But they aren’t coming back by themselves, because they will also be joined by another orange-tinged snack the company made popular in the ’90s: Cheez Curls, the preferred snack for people who love airy, cheese-flavored goodness, but aren’t fans of things that are round.

Not to sound cheesy, but we hope they also brought back their old aluminum container too. It wouldn’t be the same without it.
