You’ve seen the movement online to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut of Justice League. And more recently, you’ve seen fans rally to petition to #ReleaseTheJJCut of The Rise of Skywalker. But are you prepared for the latest fan movement working toward an alternate version of a recent movie? If you’ve seen #ReleaseTheButtholeCut trending on social media, then you have. And no, despite what this might sound like, this isn’t for an X-rated movie. It’s for the big screen adaptation of the musical Cats.
You see, there was an actual version of the film that had the singin’ and dancin’ felines portrayed with realistic cat anuses. Ok, so it seems there weren’t any actual CGI buttholes on the Jellicle cats of Cats. But we’ll get to that.
I desperately need a tell-all book about the making of CATS. It could really help me get through this

Cats was released to critical hatred and audience indifference, and tanked badly at the box office over the Christmas season. It was said to have lost Universal Studios over $100 million dollars. But it instantly developed a “so bad its good” reputation among the moviegoers brave enough to have watched it. Not since Showgirls has a bad movie so instantly risen to cult classic status. So, of course, the new and fervent fanbase wants more Cats. And they want it now. One such fan is writer/producer Ben Mekler, who used his Twitter account to make his desire for a tell-all book about the making of Cats a reality.
Well, someone responded with a juicy piece of info that would make for a good first chapter in this proposed Making of Cats book. A Twitter used named Jack Waz dropped this tidbit about the making of the film, citing a buddy who is a VFX artist. Turns out, his friend spent quite a bit of time removing some 400 shots of feline buttholes from the film. Someone must have realized that a bunch of cat anuses on human actors would likely send audiences into therapy, and thus removed them all. But this also means that somewhere, there is indeed a “butthole cut” of Cats.
To help further clarify this cat-butt sitch, another anonymous VFX artist who came forward with the facts. The “buttholes,” it seems, were unintentional. What they were asked to remove were different creases and folds that merely looked like cat anuses, among other body parts. So they had to remove them all one by one. Which kind of makes the whole thing funnier if you ask us.

Regardless, the people have spoken. They demand that Universal #ReleaseTheButtholeCut of Cats. As you can see down below, even famous names like Rian Johnson and Seth Rogen have chimed in, asking for this to become a reality. Can this new move take momentum? After all, we need lots of new entertainment now that Coronavirus has us all stuck at home. What better way than to give fans an even more horrifying version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s epic vision?
#ReleaseTheButtholeCut is exactly what we all need right now https://t.co/BhaROTRqLM

Lastly, one fan reminded everyone that Universal once DID have the gumption to put a butthole on a cat…in The Secret Life of Pets. If they did once, they can do it again. Give the fans what they want I say. #ReleaseTheButtholeCut.
