To some fans, Captain PhasmaOpens in a new tab is the Boba Fett of the new Star WarsOpens in a new tab movie trilogy — she looks impossibly cool in her full-body armor, but she has maybe ten minutes of screen time and doesn’t really do all that much. Now, however, she’s finally getting her moment in the spotlight.
As announced at Star Wars CelebrationOpens in a new tab in Orlando this weekend, Phasma will be the star of a new comic miniseries meant to bridge the gap between The Force AwakensOpens in a new tab and The Last JediOpens in a new tab, which hits theaters in December. When last we saw Phasma, she was being led by Finn and Han Solo to a trash compactor-y demise, which would probably lead many moviegoers to suspect that she did not make it off-world before the Starkiller base exploded. And then, of course, we all saw her in the trailer for The Last JediOpens in a new tab yesterday, with a cool new weaponOpens in a new tab that might play a big role in the movie. “Like most, I’m a huge fan of both Gwendoline ChristieOpens in a new tab and Phasma,” writer Kelly Thompson told StarWars.comOpens in a new tab for the big reveal. “Christie is magnetic and Phasma has so much fascinating untapped potential… potential which I can’t wait to help unlock for fans in our comic.”
