If quarantine has shown us anything, it’s that celebrities really are just like us. They let their hair grow out, they Zoom with their faraway friends, they play Animal Crossing. And sometimes, they decide to start their own YouTube channels. That was the announcement Brie Larson made on Twitter today, following some cryptic teases that had the Internet confused and intrigued about what the Captain Marvel actress could be gearing up to share with the world.

“For so long the internet perception of me has been through this carefully curated lens of a press day pegged to a specific project I am promoting,” Larson told People. “I’ve been hesitant to reveal too much about myself, partly out of fear of the unknown, but also because I had this idea that people wouldn’t be able to believe me as other characters.”
In the introductory video, Larson credits the platform for teaching her how to use her printer and how to be a better activist. It’s fun watching her give back as she connects with seasoned YouTubers, asking for their advice on what to share or what content to create. She also highlights some of the guests she’ll be talking to. They range from said YouTubers to Hot Ones host Sean Evans to her own grandmother.

For Larson, her YouTube channel is a new and fun way to connect with fans. For us, it’s a welcome distraction and much needed boost of positivity in our new normal.
