There are many different ways that TV networks and studios can announce new season renewals. But AMC decided to eschew all the normal channels of announcements this weekend in favor for a much, ahem, cheekier stunt. During the 2018 Summer Television Critics Association press tour, Bob Odenkirk surprised the room full of journalists by walking onstage, pulling down his pants and showing off a Better Call Saul temporary tattoo on his butt cheek. Seriously. It wasn’t just for fun though — the actor was there to help announce that Better Call Saul, about to debut its highly-anticipated fourth season, was officially renewed for season five. “No sh*t,” he deadpanned. “So I’ll have to get a season five tattoo. I got it eternally on my ass. I’m a real company man.”
Odenkirk also had some encouraging words while teasing the upcoming season four premiere of the Breaking Bad prequel series. “I really do think it might be our best season ever,” he said. “I think we just know our show now and we can move faster. Its got more comedy, more violence and more drama coming at you faster. It’s just going as fast as possible. I can’t wait for you to see it; it’s like a week from now.”
AMC also revealed to the room full of journalists that Fear the Walking Dead has also been renewed for season five, and new series McMafia scored a season two renewal. Fear the Walking Dead is about to return with the second half of season four this month, and it’s going to look a lot different with only one original cast member remaining (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and new stars Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman and Lennie James joining.
At least there wasn’t any partial nudity from zombies to help make that announcement! Let us know in comments which renewal you’re most excited to see.
