BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC in Most Excellent First Trailer

Bill & Ted took us on a most Excellent Adventure in 1989, when the pair went on a trip through time to pass history class. Two years later they reunited for a Bogus Journey that brought the duo to Hell and back. Literally. But neither Death nor De Nomolos could stop them from saving the universe. Only, it turns out they never actually got around to doing that. Now three decades after it all began, San Dimas High’s most famous alums are back. And the first trailer for Bill & Ted Face the Music shows the Wyld Stallyns are finally ready to fulfill their destiny.

And Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter better get on that, because they also have to save reality as we know it.

“The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. and Theodore “Ted” Logan. Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends – to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.”

Wait… is 2020 this bad because Bill and Ted never wrote their universe saving song? And does that mean we’ll all be super buffed prisoners if they don’t? Bogus.

But this trailer isn’t. While it doesn’t show much in the way of plot or other characters, it does feature the same Bill and Ted we know and love. Just older.

Bill & Ted Face the Music also stars Brigette Lundy-Paine (The Glass Castle) as Ted’s daughter Billie Logan. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) plays Bill’s daughter Thea Preston. William Sadler is also back as Death.

Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men, Legally Blonde) will star as The Great Leader, “the most powerful person in the universe” who rules from San Dimas 700 years in the future. Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers, Flight of the Conchords) plays Kelly, a messenger from the future who brings a dire warning to the Stallyns. SNL‘s Beck Bennett is joining the cast as a Ted’s little brother Deacon. And Barry‘s Noho Hank, Anthony Carrigan, will oppose the duo as their “relentless adversary.”

Amy Stoch will also return to the franchise to once again play Missy. As will Hal Landon Jr., who will reprise his role as Ted’s dad, Captain Logan. The movie also stars Jillian Bell (Workaholics, Rough Night) and Kid Cudi (Comedy Bang Bang).

Hopefully with an all-star cast like that, the Wyld Stallyns can finally get around to saving the universe. We really need them to.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is scheduled to come to theaters August 21, 2020.
