The CW Cancels BATWOMAN After 3 Seasons

The CW’s Batwoman has seen its share of ups and downs. One of the many Arrowverse series pulled from the pages of DC Comics, Batwoman has featured two actors as the titular character: Ruby Rose and Javicia Leslie (the current Batwoman). But, via TVLine, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries confirmed CW has canceled Batwoman before its fourth season.

Dries also shared the news on Twitter, along with the Batwoman writers room. The superhero show aired for three seasons, debuting in October 2019. Season one focused on Ruby Rose as Kate Kane after Rose appeared as Kane in the 2018-2019 mega Arrowverse crossover event. She then left the show after its first season. Circumstances around her departure are still murky. But Rose walking away gave Batwoman a gift in Javicia Leslie.

When season two of Batwoman premiered it was with Leslie playing a different character. They decided not to continue with Kate Kane. And rather than taking one of the characters who has worn the Batwoman mantle in the comics, The CW series created Ryan Wilder, an original character. Leslie portrayed the character through the end of Batwoman‘s third and final season. That season ended in October 2021.

Dries had plans for the fourth season that she will unfortunately not get to see through. She had previously told TVLine she had wanted to give each character their own, fitting ending. Dries said on Twitter, “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”
