Barbie has conquered Barbieland, she’s conquered Ken’s Mojo Dojo Casa House, and she’s even conquered box office records. But now the Barbie movie is ready to take over its next great frontier, digital. Folks out there may think about dying, but they also may think about how they’re dying to watch Barbie again. But soon, they won’t have to leave the comfort of their homes to see the hit movie for the hundredth time. (Although we advise that you still wear pink no matter where you’re watching Barbie.) And now, Barbie has officially set its digital release date. But when exactly will Barbie be available to stream online? Barbie will release across digital platforms on September 12, 2023.
Barbie‘s Digital Release Date, Cost, and More
Barbie was previously available for pre-order on Amazon for $19.99, though no official release date was listed. Now we know that Barbie will arrive on digital on September 12… But the price of buying Barbie has since gone up. We’re guessing breaking all those records had something to do with it.
Now, a release shares that “On September 12, Barbie will be available for early Premium Digital Ownership at home for $29.99 and 48-hour rental via PVOD for $24.99 on participating digital platforms where you purchase movies, including Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more.” That’s pretty expensive, but Barbie is everything.
Barbie‘s Bonus Features
Barbie‘s digital release will also come with some special features, six different featurettes. We wonder if it will also reveal the new post-credits scene promised by Barbie‘s IMAX release.

When Will Barbie Be Available on Streaming Channels?
For now, we don’t know if the availability of Barbie for digital purchase means it will also soon arrive on streaming channels. Recently, we learned that Barbie would stream on Max sometime this fall. And September 12 is spiritually part of the fall. However, given the steep price tag on Barbie‘s digital incarnation, we imagine the movie will land on the streaming channel a little bit later on in the year. We’ll have to wait and see. We hope Barbie will get a physical release as well as a digital one. Ideas are forever, but they become a bit more tangible when we can hold them in our hands.
Happily, while we wait for a digital version to emerge, Barbie is still very much in theaters. So you can head back into the Barbie Land sooner rather than later and proudly say, “Hi Barbie!”
