There are lots of things you can use a backroom for at your place of employment. It’s where you can store extra product, meet with your colleagues, take a break, or, maybe the best use of them all, even hide from customers. Those are all great. Less great is what they’re used for in A24’s upcoming horror film Backrooms. The film’s haunting new trailer shows that at one store backrooms are where you can get lost exploring a terrifying plane of existence that shouldn’t exist.
Kane Parsons’ popular creepypasta series Backrooms is getting the horror movie treatment from A24. He’s directing this feature filmed adaptation of his story about a complex series of unexplained rooms that appear via “a strange doorway” in the basement of a furniture showroom. (Rather than at a research institute like on his webshow.) As this genuinely unsettling promo, which reminds us in the best ways of The Blair Witch Project, reveals, going deeper to find answers will only bring more questions. And more nightmares.
The script comes from Parsons and Will Soodik (Ash vs Evil Dead, Westworld). It also has an incredible producing team: James Wan, Michael Clear, Roberto Patino, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Osgood Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson.

The cast is even better. It stars two Academy Award nominees, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value). It also features A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Finn Bennett, Shrinking‘s Lukita Maxwell, and Safety Not Guaranteed‘s Mark Duplass.
What exactly will that doorway into the yellow maze of unpleasant rooms lead to? Why are they there? And why will some find it impossible to ignore? We’ll enter the worst Backrooms in job history when the movie gets to work in time for summer. It arrives on May 29, 2026.
