This BACK TO THE FUTURE Clip Explores the Movie’s Props

It’s time to go back—again. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future, and Universal is celebrating Robert Zemeckis’ trilogy with a massive Ultimate Trilogy box set. It will mark the first-ever 4K Ultra High Definition editions of the films. But this won’t just be the best-looking version of Marty McFly’s adventures yet. This collection is loaded with all new bonus extras. And we have an exclusive look at one of those extras. Because while Doc Brown didn’t need roads, Back to the Future needed a whole lot of props.

Some turned out to be a little more accurate than others though.

Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy, which will be available in DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra collections, will also come with more than an hour of all new extras. That will include the featurette “The Hollywood Museum Goes Back to the Future.” It will explore some of the props from the trilogy, like what the franchise got right (future currency) and wrong (fax machines did not become quite as ubiquitous). The above clip offers a taste of that extra.

Okay, sure, the “every home has a million fax machines” prediction seems absurd now. But they really did seem like the wave of the future at the time. And it’s not like the 2015 McFly household was totally off. They got the whole “phone calls would be done via video screen” thing right.

We’re just going to ignore the far-too-accurate portrayal of an alternate reality where an egotistical casino owner is in charge.

(Fri 10/16 9am PT) New BTTF Box Set Extra Explores Movies' Props (Exclusive)_1Universal Pictures

This featurette about props is just one of the many, many new extras fans can expect when all three versions are released on “Back to the Future Day,” October 20. You can find the full list below, including how the set will include never-before-seen auditions from some famous actors like Ben Stiller.

We can’t wait to see that. But unlike some of their future props, Back to the Future got its cast exactly right.
