Next year the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. will all return to the MCU with Avengers: Doomsday. Before they do, Marvel Studios will let fans see the last time those three partnered together for a massive crossover event on the big screen once more. Avengers: Endgame is getting a theatrical re-release before Victor Von Doom arrives. That’s right, Avengers: Endgame is heading back to movie theaters so you can witness it on the big screen again before the next Avengers movie. (Or maybe even for the first time.)
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is bringing Avengers: Endgame back to movie theaters on September 25, 2026. That’s just about two months before Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026. It’s unknown how long this re-release will run. But even a short run could help Avengers: Endgame retake the number one spot in the all-time global box office standings. After its initial release, Endgame overtook Avatar for that honor. But after James Cameron’s smash hit got its own re-release, Avatar took back its crown. It now sits above Endgame by “just” a little more than $124 million.
But while hype, money, and a title (that doesn’t even account for inflation) are reason enough for Marvel Studios to re-release Avengers: Endgame in movie theaters. But there might be an artistic one as well. If you don’t want to know why stop now. What follows includes possible spoilers.
A popular fan theory, based on supposedly leaked set photos, posits Avengers: Doomsday could see Victor Von Doom travel back in time. Specifically, Avengers: Doomsday could begin the moment Steve Rogers entered Peggy Carter’s house, the final scene of Avengers: Endgame. If there is a direct connection between those two films, re-releasing Avengers: Endgame in movie theaters could help bridge the gap for audience members who might not remember everything that happened previously.
It might also make what happens at the start of Avengers: Doomsday that much more powerful. That final scene of Endgame, so full of love and peace, might end up anything but. If Doom joins Peggy and Steve, it might end up being full of hate and death.
For now, keep your eyes out for tickets to see Avengers: Endgame in movie theaters once again.
