This is definitely the most dystopian we’ve seen the world of animated Avatar look. Even though Avatar: The Last Airbender was set on the brink of world war and included genocide, colonialism, and many other intense topics, there was still an overall layer of hope and brightness to the world; an optimism that ran deep. This time we have danger, human and spirit enemies, and the potential of civilization’s total collapse. We don’t know how we feel about a gritty Avatar world.

Avatar fans will be excited… or perhaps terrified… to see a glimpse of Avatar Korra in this Avatar: Seven Havens trailer. Whatever Korra’s fate was in the Avatar world, it wasn’t pretty, and it caused the world to turn against the Avatar. According to new protagonist Pavi, Korra “doomed the world.” That’s not the happily ever after we had in mind for Korra and Asami!!! But we bet there’s more to the story than it seems. (And if we don’t like that, we can always run to the Korra comics.)
